Kuala Lipis revisited

This blog is reactivated after 6 years.
Yup, I am back to Kuala Lipis, this time for UKM Medical Faculty's PPD 3 Camp.
PPD is Personal Professional Development. Basically, these final year students are taught to be better doctors in life: How to balance life and work, how to control spending, how to cooperate with each other... blah... blah... blah...

Kem Bina Negara Kuala Lipis, Pahang.

The KFC and the Chinese food shop is still here

 This is Hotel Bestari in
Kuala Lipis new town. RM75/night. No breakfast. 10km away from kem.

No need to blog in the car using KFC's wifi. 3G is available

And dinner in the Chinese shop. Ginger spring onion chicken (RM6.50) and 'kao kei' vege + sai tou fish fillet (RM10).Expansive soup!!

Reflecting back on 2008 after my Primary Exam and 2014 now, four years after becoming a specialist:

1. Lucas was not yet born the last time I was here.
2. Dad was still around. We miss him so much.
3. I now serve UKM, no more KKM.
4. Last time I was still using my Proton Aeroback WKH 3155
5. Now I used two GPS to drive here (Waze and Sylphy GPS). Last time I used ASUS P6500 window mobile phone connected to a Bluetooth GPS device using MalSing Map.
6. 3G is available. Last time I had to rely on GPRS services.
7. Bought my Celcom prepaid card here six years ago.
8. Probably gained 3kg of body weight compared to 6 years ago.

Road to Kuala Lipis...

Okay this post is intended for those that will be choosened to cover Kuala Lipis in the subsequent months.

To reach Kuala Lipis, take the MRR2 route to Karak Highway, pass by 2 tolls (first rm5, second rm3). Take the exit after the second toll (Bentong Barat) to head up to Bentong, then Raub before reaching Kuala Lipis. In Bentong and Raub, you actually need to pass through their town. I used my ASUS GPS running on Garmin software and map. It was superb... led me without any problems.

Total distance from KL is about 160km, will take about 2 and half hour...

The hotel to stay is Lipis Plaza hotel (tel 09-3125521, 3125588). Take the deluxe room, rm85/night. Ask for room facing the front instead of the back ones (facing jungle). The room 3-205 or 3-207 are the usual ones provided. If you are bringing your family... try their suite, only rm130-140... still fall within our budget for UD 41 officers.

There are free wifi in the hotel lobby, around KFC and somewhere near Central Hotel.

And bring your dvd player with lots of dvd's

Alrite then... good luck...

Day 8... Friday My Last Day...

Friday is the last day of my stay in Kuala Lipis... Got a k-wire scheduled...

Breakfast was a bit different, no buffet, but was asked to choose western style breakfast or some mamak mee goreng. I think it is because there were very few guests in hotel, they opted for individual meals. Anyway the sausages was not bad, although it still looked the same from my everyday breakfast.

The ortho case eventually ended close to twelve and I had to rush to do my claims before checking out from hotel.

Told by 1 of my friends to showcase their toilet in OT. The toilet door actually leads to a staircase to go DOWN to toilet...

It sort of give you a kinda of dizziness when you look down... Scary... Never rush if you're in emergency... Might just trip and fumble down.... Strange colonial building.

Dizzy yet?

That's where banking in done.

Had lunch in the shop beside KFC (again) before going back to hotel... Had nai-yu fish fillet... Well, edible but very dry.

Started my journey home at 1400hrs... Reached Raub after 50mins, Bentong after 90mins, and MRR2 after 2hrs plus around 1600hrs. It was raining in KL with MRR2 full of cars. Detoured to HKL and Sentul before restarting my journey home to Sban at 1930hrs...

So after 8 days... I'm finally back at home in Sban...

Okay lah, this is posted on Saturday, after going to Tesco, Jusco and Fatt Kei...

Well this concluded my suateng experience...

Thank you for reading and following this blog...

Will blog when I've got idea...

Day7... Thursday

This is actually a late post...
Day 7, another day to go...

Breakfast is usual, no new things... has got only 1 scheduled orthopedic case today.

It was a lateral malleolus wound debridement on a 20yrs old... I actually gave a blind common peroneal block with 25G needle with local infiltration to lateral malleolus. Op was able to be done under LA only.

Had some time in the afternoon, so was back in the hotel...

To show you the LP... hehe, that is Lipis Plaza...

Then was actually called back for a Caesar on 3pm and again emergency orthopedic case at 8pm... Last night here and was called the most... cheh

Eventually finished the case only at 2330hrs, that why did not put up any new blog.
Had this Nasi goreng Lipis in 1 of the malay stall in the middle of night for my dinner... it's black pepper fried rice with prawn and sotong. It actually nice... RM5.00 and reasonable.

Has got another listed ortho case on Friday morning before I leave....

Day 6... Wednesday

Day 6 of 8... time flies...

Today has got gynae elective, so had to go early. Still clocked in at 0802hrs, red mark. Breakfast was still the same old thing, and it was served cold from the sahur time...

Did 2 gynae cases, and waited for a KIV LSCS... Thankfully pt delivered, after I went to labour room to give some oral pitocin.

Looked around in the OT, found out that the claimed bougie was in fact tracheal tube guide that is so soft soft... I brought with me real bougie from HKL, sitting in my car, with various sizes of disposable LMA... Kiasu...

So today actually missed lunch, stayed the longest in hospital so far...

Kuala Lipis is also famous as the kampung of Malaysian diva CT nurhaliza... Heard from nurses that her new banglow house is nearby, so took a drive there after work. Even my GA MA knows her, used to be neighbour, according to him.

There is actually a sign board that shows the way to her house.

Big double storey with 3 tiang bendera... The road leading to the house is a dead end, so the photo was taken from afar. Words around that her father is not that friendly.

Anyway, went shooting around after that. Mostly sceneries... decided to watermark my work. So what do you think of my art works? Please feel free to comment.

A grand looking mosque on the way to CT's house. Nice blue sky, but sayang no much clouds.

Taken from the other side showing the silloutte of the mosque.

An up the batang shot...

Went up the Rumah Residen I mentioned earlier, the colonial house has this kind of air vent on every wall.

A cerobong (sound something like that) that looked like a gigantic urinal.

A macro shot of bunga raya against the blue sky.

A flag pole, but no wind.

The blue sky with golden white clouds on the horizon.

The clouds that looked like a wave... all the electricity line very kacau.

As the sun was setting, also took some silloutte photo.

This one looked like from some Chinese calligraphy paintings...

The clouds in steps just outside the hotel.

Dinner was man-kai-fan with ham-choy-tau-fu soup. Rm10.20.

Petrol price down by a mere 10cents/litre, cheh...

Also found this from Paul Savante's blog... funny...

2 more nights to go...

Day 5... Tuesday

Day 5 of 8... at least today they have a new menu, french toast bread (the long type). I think that is to cater for the sesat-to-suateng-gwailo's...

Was early to work today, clocked in at 0759hrs... but came back to hotel around 0845hrs... hehe...

Got called back to hospital to review a staff nurse going for induction with prolapsed verebral discs... discussed options of anesthesia if she goes for caesarean section.

Saw the passing the train passing through Kuala Lipis while driving, went tapau chicky rice, RM4.00, not cheap here.

Before I could enjoy my lunch, was actually called back again for an emergency caesarean section... As there is no standard protocol here, I gave intrathecal morphine... dexa as antiemetic, suppository voltaren 100mg, prescribed PCM, oral voltaren, stuffs from HKL. Can see the nurses here were like... what the heck, this GA is veli ma-fan, give so much...

These were the 8 tabs of 12.5mg diclofenac stuffed in...

The OT complex here has got 2 OT rooms, the minor OT room is used for LA cases, but there is still an old Ulco and halothane vaporiser around, but I doubt they have halothane still.

Hot blue sky today in the afternoon today...

Night scene in Kuala Lipis, taken while on my way to review the caesar's pt. Extending my service in APS too...

Had KFC for dinner, after resisting it for 5 days... actually nothing interesting, tried on their raya spice crunch chicky. Used their KFC wifi while eating...

See their spice crunch chicky ...

See mine, okay lah not bad taste lah... but i still like their tomyam flavoured chicky... long long time ago.

Cheesy wages with extra cheese... not veli extra...

And this is my hotel room loh, with laptop and hampalang all on the bed.

My dear, please take care, I think now you should leave the heavy duties for ppl around you already... Luv you.
